Narrow Perspectives is an interesting website featuring a collection of photographs of narrow gauge railways in the British Isles. Most of the pictures are from the last twenty years or so but there is a section featuring historic photographs and another with photos from the 1960s of the Ffestiniog Railway’s Deviation Project.
John Clutterbuck wrote a series of three articles about building accurate trackwork which was originally published in Roy C Link’s Narrow Gauge & Industrial Railway Modelling Review issues 63, 64 & 65. As Roy has now sold most of the relevant back issues, John and Roy have collaborated to produce an updated electronic booklet [...]
Some photos of this unique and very attractive O14 layout, exhibited at ExpoNG 2008 by Jack Treves. It depicts an industrial railway supplying a sugar factory with beets to process, and is built inside three large suitcases. Small bridging sections connect each case together and, aside from the backscenes in the case lids, it is [...]
Nigel Lawton was demonstrating a 7mm:ft scale version of his 20hp bow-framed Simplex kit at ExpoNG 2008. Originally developed for OO9, the etch artwork for the new loco has been (literally) scaled up with some changes the drive system allowed by the larger size.
While the OO9 loco relies on a friction drive for the reduction [...]
I’ve been asked to place these photos of Festiniog and Penrhyn Quarry railway chairs on the site for everyone’s information.
The hardware was supplied to me by Adrian Gray when I showed a willingness to produce brass masters of them for castings in 7mm. scale. I also decided to do them in 1/32nd scale, should anyone [...]
Here are some photos I took in June 2006 on the Vale of Rheidol railway in Wales at Aberffrwd station. Note the substantial nature of the track (c. 60lb/yd) and modern pointwork which is typical of modern preserved NG railways in the UK.

Although the gauge is out by 8″ or so for O14, there are some great details in the trackwork of the Volks Electric Railway in Brighton that could be a useful reference for anyone working on a “tourist attraction” type railway rather than serious functional narrow gauge!

Examples of track on my slowly gestating Pentewan Light Railway and as shown in the articles in Narrow Gauge & Industrial Modelling Review – now available for download on this site here
Note that in my history the Pentewan was rebuilt in the 1920s as a 1′ 11½” line using ex-WD equipment and managed to survive [...]
Gilbert Gribi is a narrow gauge modeller who lives near Lausanne in Switzerland and has made several stunning layouts in various gauges and scales including an O14 model of La Vernarède (a real village in the South of France). He has given me permission to feature some photos of it here. See here for details [...]
